You might notice that I don't have any printable baby announcements on the site. That's because even before I had a baby I figured right after giving birth is not when one wants to jump into a DIY project.
After our daughter was born I thought about it though, printing our own announcements. I have since learned how easy it is to be waaaay to ambitious about doing things when you have a baby. I have to remind myself that I can only do a fraction of the non-mom things I'd like to do (like post on this blog) at least for the next while.
This left me in a bit of a quandary. Everyone knows I'm a card designer and that I design and sell printable stationery, I can't send out generic birth announcements or announcements designed by somebody else.
Fortunately I've been doing a lot of design licensing lately. If you get my newsletter or follow me on Facebook or Instagram you'll have seen my updates on e.m.papers designs in other outlets. Many of these designs are for photo cards.
So I made the practical decision to use one of my birth announcement (or in German Geburtsanzeige) designs from Kartenmacherei. A large online printed card service in the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region that I do design licensing work with.
It was really easy and I'm glad I did it. First we had a little photo shoot. I thought about hiring a professional photographer but that was another thing that was just too overwhelming to organize after baby was born. So we just waited until the sun brightly lit up our living room, laid baby on a couple of different backgrounds and took a zillion shots.
We propped up a space heater nearby to keep the bambina warm. The hair dryer wasn't to style her four hairs but for the calming white noise - I wouldn't have been able to shower without the hair dryer for the first 3 months after the baby arrived!
It was great to have options for different fonts and colors (of course you can do this with e.m.papers printables by ordering Add Ons) as well as photo style options like going with black and white for the photos.
The hardest part was actually getting them all written and sent. We finally finished though - in April! Better late than never I suppose.
I still do have a couple of printable birth announcement options on Etsy for you diehard DIYers!
