If you followed my design-a-day challenge last October you'll remember this wedding invitation design. It was inspired by traditional chinese paper art, and I've named it GongXi (which means 'blessing' or 'wish').
In any case, I was working on a collaboration with a local wedding blogger which involved lots of gold. I really enjoyed working with gold paper and envelopes. It brought to mind the red and gold envelopes we would hang in the door of our elementary school classrooms for Chinese New Year. This gave me the idea to add a gold backing to these wedding cards and do a little photo shoot.
I don't know what the trends are around Asian or Chinese-inspired weddings, but who cares! I think the gold with red and the black of this invite is just stunning.
Here's an image of the Save the Date printable which is also ready for download.
It was pretty easy to add the gold backing. I just sprayed a little spray glue on the templates before cutting (I recommend the kind which allows you to reposition after spraying), laid on the gold paper, smoothed it out and then cut them out. My kinda a DIY; a lots of 'wow factor' for a pretty minimal effort.
