I was so delighted to come across my husband watching this TED video this morning. It's a talk given by Chip Kidd. You may not know him by name, but you know many of his famous book covers, including Jurassic Park and Naked by David Sedaris.
When I started out as a book designer in the mid nineties, Chip Kidd both inspired and frustrated everyone because he was just so damn good. I had never seen him nor heard him talk and imagined him as sort of an aloof cool guy. Two seconds into this video will show that my imagined version of Mr. Kidd was ALL wrong.
This is a great talk on the process of good graphic design, turning stories into images and graphic design in the olden days (rapidiograph pens!). At the end of the talk he makes one of the most inspired arguments in favor of the printed book that I have yet heard.
Enjoy and have a great weekend.
