Printing at Home

1. Can I use my home printer?
Absolutely, e.m.papers was created with this idea in mind!

2. What's better an ink jet or laser printer?
It doesn't really matter as long as long your printer accepts thicker paper stock.

3. Can I use card stock with my home printer?
Most home printers comfortably accept 80-110 lb. cover stock or even heavier weights. Check your manual or buy a few sheets at a craft store and test them. If the paper goes through smoothly with no problems, it should be fine. If the card stock sticks and jams and gets through the printer with difficulty, don't push it.

4. I only have a black and white printer, how will my printable look?
Most of our cards, stationery and invitations are designed for color printers. If you print them on a black and white printer, the colors will print in various shades of gray. We do have some designs such as our Black and White Printable Bike Wedding Set that will work beautifully on a black and white printer. Check the site regularly or join our mailing list, as we're adding new designs all the time.

5. How will I know if the color will look right?
Colors can and will look different across computer monitors and printers. Please download our color sheet and test it with whatever printing method you are planning to use.

6. Is there a home printer you recommend?
We don't promote any particular brand, but all the printable cards, invitations and paper goods shown in our images were produced with a very old HP960 printer which was grudgingly given away only after it was no longer compatible with a new Mac, and a Canon Pixma, which we've been very happy with. Both printers cost $100 or less.

7. How many ink cartridges will I need?
It depends on your printer, usually information on pages per cartridge can be found in the manual. It also depends on the design. Designs with large color fields will need more ink. Typography based designs or designs with less fields of color will need less. Estimate 1-2 cartridges for something like 50 copies of a printable wedding kit.

Professional Printing

8. Can I take my e.m.papers printable to a copy shop?
Yes. We recommend downloading our free sample invitation to make sure that they accept the format. You may also want to ask them if they can cut your files as well or if you will need to cut them yourself. Finally, ask about what kind of paper options are available and whether or not they print on card stock.

9. Can I take my e.m.paper printable to a professional printer?
Sure. We highly recommend purchasing a customized printable and having us create a print ready version. Our sizes may vary from some printers. Take a look at our sizing guide and ask if they can print to the sizes we offer or select a sizing change (the format needs to remain the same; a horizontal design cannot be converted to a square, etc.) Alternatively, you can download our free instant download sample invitation and see if they accept this format. You may also want to ask them if they can cut this type of file or if you will need to cut them yourself.

10. Can I use my e.m.paper printable with an online printer?
Yes. We recommend downloading our free sample invitation and uploading it to the online site to see if they accept the format. If using our instant download templates, you will need to cut them yourself. If you want to have a design printed to it's exact size without cutting you'll need to order a print-ready version. Take a look at our sizing guide and check to see if the online printer prints to the sizes we offer. If not, you can order a custom size.

11.  Can I take my e.m.paper printable to a letterpress printer?
Most of our designs aren't currently configured to be letterpress printed, but if you have your heart set on this beautiful type of printing contact us and we'll work with you to figure something out.

12. How will I know if the printer can print an e.m.papers printable?
Again, we recommend downloading our free sample invitation and providing it to the printer to review and/or referring them to our site. It may help to let the printer know that our instant download templates are in an Adobe PDF form format and fonts are not outlined. They should be able to consult you on whether you need a print ready version or not.
